Map

Cadaqués is situated at the north-eastern tip of Spain, just south of the border with France, but don´t say that to a local, as it is also in Catalunya which some (not all) of the inhabitants regard as a country in its own right.

Catalunya used to have a Mediterranean empire, and Catalan is an recognised EU language.

It is only 2 and a half hours from Barcelona and easily reached by car from both the city and Girona, which also has excellent air connections (it´s a Ryanair hub).

To get to Cadaques, you’ll need to get over the pass that separates the peninsular from the rest of Catalunya. You’ll approach from the west, from the direction of Figueres and Empuriabrava. There are good bus and train connections.

For detailed instructions, see the bottom of this page.

By Air
The nearest airports are Girona (1 hour approx) and Barcelona (2.5 hours approx.). You can hire a car or take a taxi from either airport. Or get the train or bus up.

By train.
Trains run regularly from Barcelona to Figueres. And it’s fast! (it’s the new AVE- high speed line). You can get a taxi from Figueres. Try the taxis at the station. You can also get a bus (SARBUS).

By Bus
Sarbus run a frequent and very efficient service up to Cadaques from the airport or Barcelona.

By Road.
From Barcelona. You need to get on the AP7 motorway north of Barcelona (with tolls). Follow signs to Girona and França (France in Catalan) or Francia. Signposting can sometimes can be confusing on Spanish roads, but if you are coming from the airport to the south of Barcelona, head for a ringroad or RONDA (either the Ronda Litoral or preferably the Ronda de Dalt) and follow signs to the AP7 and France/Girona.

Once you are on the AP7 (make sure you have some money as this is a toll road), head north until junction 4 which is after Girona but just before Figueres.
Head for Empuriabrava and Roses. Before you get to Roses, follow directions to Cadaques.

Parking
Once you get to Cadaques, there is a car park on the edge of the village. Unless you have a good idea of where you are staying, we recommend that you park up here to get your bearings. The streets around Cadaques are very narrow- you will be able to drive directly up to your hotel, but it is worth working out exactly where it is first.
